Born in Qena, Mohamad El Ganouby graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Education of El Minya University in 1987. His art focuses on how experiences of travel, both literal and metaphorical, can impact a person and his or her collective identities. He employs raw materials (sand, wood, spices, and wax) because of their association with Southern Egypt. He uses these materials to symbolize the transformation of primitive elements into a work of art, as he believes that art can combine art history and natural history to create new meaning.
