Fathi Afifi was born in 1950 in Cairo, Egypt. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1974. He is a member of the Cairo Atelier Union of Artists and Writers, the Plastic Art Association, and the Ahlia Art Society. Afifi’s paintings are distinguished by their rough textures and a variety of hues. He frequently works in black and white, scratching on a black surface. He is known for his paintings of people, factories, the working class, Egyptian alleyways, and famous districts, particularly El-Sayeda Zeinab.
