Bauer is globally recognized for expanding the boundaries of porcelain. He has reverse-engineered an ancient Chinese (Tsung Dynasty) technique to create images that rise above the surface of the clay, rather than being mere impressions. He also developed a unique process called “dioroid” printing, which uses a responsive emulsion within the clay body to capture images of ambient objects. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the collections of two South African museums (the Slave Lodge in Cape Town and the William Humphreys Art Gallery in Kimberley). He was also recognized as an Emerging Creative at Design Indaba 2009.
